As you study this passage in the original language, you discover that when Paul prayed that the Colossians would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will, his language was very expressive. To be “filled” here means to be filled full, up to the brim. The word “knowledge” means “full and accurate knowledge.”
So what Paul actually prayed for was that the Colossians would be filled full, up to the top, with the full and accurate knowledge of God’s will. How different that is from the experience of most Christians! Many people think that God actually wants to keep them “in the dark” concerning His will! They think that God is withholding information from them and that He is reluctant to disclose His plans and purposes to them. They live in uncertainty.
But the truth is that God Himself desires you to walk in the light as He is in the light, and to be filled full, up to the brim, with the full and accurate knowledge of His will! Being filled full, up to the top, with the full and accurate knowledge of God’s will empowers you to live a life worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing!
