The Sword of the Spirit

One of the weapons listed among the whole armor of God in the book of Ephesians is the sword of the Spirit. (Eph 6:17). That verse actually says in the Greek, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word (literally, the “rhema”) of God.

The “rhema” word of God is the word that God speaks into your heart! One of the most important things to do when you find yourself in a situation that you don’t exactly know how to pray about, is to hear from God and to get His word about the situation.

When God speaks His word into your heart, it becomes a sword in the Spirit that you can wield against the strategies of the enemy! When God speaks a word into your heart and you put that word into your mouth, it goes forth from your heart like a ballistic missile to destroy the works of the enemy.

That’s what happened with us one time when one of our sons was under spiritual attack. We didn’t know how to pray with our understanding. As I prayed in English, it felt like I was getting nowhere fast!

But then I began to pray in tongues, and in just a short time, the Holy Spirit dropped a particular verse of scripture into my spirit concerning my son. Suddenly, I knew how to pray and I was able to pray with unction and with boldness! I could sense the power of God going forth into that situation on the wings of that Spirit-anointed prayer. That was a turning point. It wasn’t long after that that our son walked out of the trap that the enemy had laid for him.

Thank God for the Holy Ghost! He’s our Helper and our Intercessor!
